Nick Oakman  - Captain of the Exiles 1980

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of one of the Exiles greats on Thursday evening. Nick Oakman (Big Nick to just about everyone who knew him) was a vital cog in the Exiles machine from the late 70s right through to the 1990s. He was a player with genuine class, always the first name on the team sheet and modest to a fault. He captained the team during the early eighties, rarely missed a game and never missed a tour. To those of us who played with him, it was a privilege. To those who played against him, it was a nightmare. All would agree, however, that he was one of the best players ever to pull on an Exiles shirt.

He leaves his wife, Jeanne, daughter, Sarah and two grandchildren, Albert and Yrsa.

Rest in Peace my friend. The loss of a life is not the loss of a friendship.

Nick Morton (Wee Nick) on behalf of Exiles RUFC
